About Teen Princess Louisiana Program

Summary

Developed by a group of local directors of the Miss America Organization in 1994, the Miss Teen Princess Louisiana program exists to make available personal and professional opportunities for young women and to promote their voices in culture, political opinions and the community. The program provides an opportunity for today's young women to express their viewpoints and accomplishments to the public-at-large during the ensuing year. All contestants are in the process of earning a high school diploma and utilize Miss Teen Princess Louisiana cash scholarship grants to further their educations.

To become Miss Teen Princess Louisiana, a contestant can either, first win a local competition and then compete to represent her state or become an at-large contestant, a process requiring personal commitment and hard work. A young lady may compete at the state level more than once, but may only compete in the national Miss Teen Princess America competition one time. The first national Teen Princess America Scholarship Program has begun a steering committee in San Diego, California. Their goal is to be functioning in the summer of 2008. Young ladies between thirteen and eighteen years of age participate each year in the local and state events, culminating in the selection of 32 state finalists who vie for the Miss Teen Princess Louisiana title. Many volunteers organize the local preliminary competitions, promoting community involvement throughout Louisiana and furthering scholarship and achievement among young ladies in their communities.

The Miss Teen Princess Louisiana Program and the state titleholder partner with numerous sponsors to raise funds for civic and charitable organizations tied to their platform issues. These sponsors become involved with the Miss Teen Princess Louisiana program on both financial and personal levels.

General Background

Partnered with the North Caddo Historical Society, the Miss Teen Princess Louisiana is a not-for-profit organization that has maintained a tradition for over a decade by empowering young women to achieve their personal and academic goals, while providing a forum in which to express their opinions and intelligence.

The Miss Teen Princess Louisiana Program is one of the state's leading achievement programs and a provider of scholarship assistance for young women between thirteen and eighteen years of age. Last year, the Miss Teen Princess Louisiana Program and its local programs made accessible more than $25,000 in awards, cash and scholarship assistance.

Community Service

In the early1990s, the program was founded and partnered with the Teen Louisiana America Pageant to help recruit young ladies into the Miss Louisiana America system, and was and is a distinctly community-service oriented focal point.

In 1994, the Miss Teen Princess Louisiana adopted a platform belief, which requires each contestant to choose an issue about which she cares deeply and that is of significance to her. Once chosen, Miss Teen Princess Louisiana uses her distinction to address community-service organizations, business and civic leaders, the media and others about their platform issues. Since 1994, Miss Teen Princess Louisiana titleholders have appeared at numerous public speaking engagements and charitable events to help generate awareness for a variety of causes including: Organ Donation, American Cancer Society "Relay for Life", Shots for Tots, Juvenile Diabetes Awareness, Adoption, ADHD, Cystic Fibrosis Awareness, and Giving The Gift of Sight.
